Hello, again! Judy and I left Modesto, CA, on Monday, Sept. 1 as planned. Judy is a friend I met through our church in Modesto, and as she had expressed an interest in seeing her sister in Denver, I offered her a seat in my car so I would have company the first few days of my journey. Monday evening we stayed on the outskirts of Las Vegas. We were quite tired after nearly ten hours of driving.
On Wednesday we drove to Arches National Park and were awestruck once again. Neither of us had visited this park, so it was all new, and, again, very spectacular! Because we arrived a little later than planned, we decided to stay an extra day, taking full advantage of the park, a few short hiking trails, and breathtaking pull-outs. Our visit to Arches was climaxed with an evening dinner and light show on the Colorado River. What a treat!
Friday was another long day in the car as we drove to Denver to be with Judy’s family. Colorado is, I believe, the only state I had not visited yet. The entrance to Denver through the Rockies was beautiful; there was even some snow on the peaks from the rain which fell the night before. Much construction on the freeways in Denver delayed our arrival, but once we did, we took Bobbie (Judy’s sister) and Joe (brother-in-law) out to dinner at the local airport restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal, relaxing and getting to know one another.
On Saturday, Joe was very kind to help me run a few errands (air in the tires and cell phone issues), then he treated me to a wonderful tour of Denver. We happened to catch a Native American celebration, resplendent in exquisite costumes, special dancing, and amazing color. After a quick tour of the art museum and lunch, we found a few minutes to tour the botanical gardens. All in all, a very nice day!
Sunday morning, I got a relatively early start and continued on my journey. Judy stayed behind to travel north with her family for a few weeks. I ended up in Grand Island, Nebraska for the night, and tomorrow will continue on the road to Iowa, on my way to Montpelier. Ohio where I will be staying with friends for a week.
