For whatever reasons, I love stopping at fish hatcheries……always have, always will. Finding one on my trip to Heber Springs was a bonus to an already great trip. Greers Ferry National Fish Hatchery is located just below the Greers Ferry Dam along the Little Red River.
As per the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service brochure, this hatchery distributes more than 200,000 pounds of rainbow and brook trout annually into suitable waters to mitigate the fishery losses from water development projects in Arkansas and Oklahoma. The hatchery is also involved in the conservation of imperiled non-game fishes, such as the yellow cheek darter. The hatchery is one of more than eighty units in the National system administered by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Will my journey lead me to all 80? Maybe this should be an addition to my bucket list!
Daily gifts of grace: today I am so thankful for the tremendous support of my sister and her family as I forge ahead into the unknown, expecting many surprises and special times along the way.
